There’s only a few more days until the holidays swing into high gear! In the spirit of giving I thought I’d share some interesting finds and hopefully make your last minute holiday gift dash to the mall (or online retailer) more enjoyable!
For the coffee/Tea lover
I love coffee. I take the time to brew a proper cup at home and usually have enough left over from my commute that it’s worthwhile to bring my travel mug into the office. Once I do it’s a game of chance of whether I knock the darn thing over (or someone else knocking it over). Enter the Mighty Mug with its magical ability of resisting a knock down yet surprisingly easy to pick up like a normal mug. If you don’t believe me what the video!
I couldn’t resist opening the box and just wacking it around to see how hard I need to wack it before it falls over. It’ll definitely withstand a good smacking! I call this a win in the holiday gift department. The magic balance of practicality and geekiness.
Best thing is that it’s only $20.

The Tech Geek
I’m dying to give the HooToo Tripmate a try the next time I go on vacation. I find it’s hit and miss regarding the quality of internet access I have at hotels. Some have only wired; others have very weak wi-fi signal (depending on your floor) – all frustrating when you’re travelling on business or on a family vacation and the kids. The HooToo Tripmate is an all in one device that can charge your devices, act as a file share, and provide wireless access where only a wired connection exists. Heck it can even extend a wireless signal if you can get a signal by the window but not in the centre of the room. Since it’s about the size of small candy bar, you’ll only get about 20ft range but in most hotel rooms that enoughs to make a frustrating experience more enjoyable.
There’s enough battery power to charge a Samsung Galaxy S3 for 3 nights. So great if you’re heading out backwoods camping and want to remain connected to the world.
The Gamer, Sci-fi lover
If you have a friend who loves to play video games, RPGs, boardgames or Sci-Fi, a subscription to Loot Crate may be the holiday gift to give. For $30 a month (includes shipping) the company sends 6 to 8 geeky goodness in a sleek black box (in the US it’s only $13.37). The company sometimes has a monthly theme – for December this year the theme is “Console Wars” in honor of Microsoft and Sony launching their next gen consoles. I signed up just in time to get the December crate and I’m dying to find out what’s in there (I’ll do an unboxing video when it arrives)
Cost: $13.77 (US) / $30 CDN (Includes Shipping)
